Kitchen Hero is finally here! It has been a long time coming I know but I am so proud to have recorded my very first TV series. The recipes that I cook in the TV show are all designed to encourage people into the kitchen and get cooking. This series is all about the home cook, focusing on building you confidence in the kitchen so that you can become a kitchen hero!

Can you believe it? We’re finally at the last episode of Kitchen Hero!  A massive thank you to everyone who has spread the word, sent lovely comments and most importantly cooked the recipes!  I’m heading out on a high with the last episode which was partly filmed backstage at the Tivoli Theatre panto.  A few years ago I starred as Peter Pan in the panto and so we decided as part of the TV show to treat the cast to a big slap up meal after one of the shows.  After a long day filming in the kitchen we packed the cars and drove in...

This episode is all about quick fixes, the kind of food which you can throw together at the drop of hat!  Pasta is one of my ultimate fast food ingredients and in this show I give you two delicious options which are total quick comfort food.  Eggs are an ingredient we all have in the kitchen and basic as they might be, for anyone who has never cooked with them before, I show how to make two quick egg dishes, scrambled eggs and a healthy little omlette.  For a great midweek meal my fragrant Thai chicken stew is the business!  Served up with...

We are a big Sunday dinner family, and there really is nothing better than a good roast lamb with all the extras.  In this episode the pressure is on as I cook a Sunday dinner for my parents and my grandparents!  You check out some behind the scenes shots my pal James Byrne took while we were filming over here. How many times a year do you have to organise a birthday bash? In my family that’s a lot of times! To always put on a spread that everyone will enjoy is a lot of work and takes a bit of preparation! When we filmed this episode it started off with a fight over who’s birthday we were going to celebrate, as you’ll see, my old friend Brian won this fight and got all the pressies in the end.  I chose the recipes for this episode because I think they’re quite simple and quick to prepare and they always go down a storm.  The...

We filmed this particular episode as part of three other ones down in Kerry.  We were very lucky to get a few days of sunshine in late September, when we also recorded the Surfing and Hiking episodes.  Even if the weather isn’t exactly up to much this year, don’t despair all the food featured in this episode can also be cooked in the kitchen.  If you’ve heard me talking about spatchcocking chickens and have had absolutely no idea what I was talking about, well wonder no more, I give you a full demostration, complete with bone...

Kitchen Hero: Episode 6- Baking!
Sunday, June 19, 2011

The first thing I learned to do in kitchen was to bake!  Growing up it was my absolute favourite thing to do.  For kids starting in kitchen, it’s probably one of the more visual types of cooking which is definitely what drew met to it.  I have a serious sweet tooth so I love all sorts of sweet desserts, and I’m always on the lookout for new ideas and inspiration.  The recipes in this episode are for just some of my ultimate baking recipes which I couldn’t live without.  I have a little bit of help in this particular episode...

I am addicted to Asian flavours!  Growing up I used to love spending time trawling the Asian Market in Dublin for new ingredients and trying them out in the kitchen at home.  Despite not knowing what to do with half of them, I worked my way through a big encyclopedia of Asian recipes and basically taught myself!  The recipes I cooked in this episode are all really easy to prepare and leave you with really tasty and impressive results.  I’ve stripped the recipes down to the basics so that you are left with dishes that are packed with...

Kitchen Hero: Episode 4- 5 Mile Hike!
Thursday, June 2, 2011

While we were down in Kerry filming the surfing episode, we also managed to fit in filming for this 5 Mile Hike episode.  The show starts off with us driving the crazy Kerry country roads in the very cool VW van which we borrowed from a great fella called Liam.  What I don’t mention in the show is that not only am I a terrible driver, but about ten minutes prior to us starting to shoot, I had just been taught how to drive the van, which is from 1990, has a golf ball as a gear stick and is a bloody beast! So needless to say I was just...

This was one of the episodes I was most looking forward to filming.  Just before all this food madness kicked off, I was a member of a four piece pop band called Industry.  We had a fantastic run at it with 2 Irish number one singles and support slots for both JLS and the Pussycat Dolls.  Unfortunately we called it quits in March 2010 but are all still great pals!  While we were only a vocal group, for all the gigs we performed, we had a backing band from Sweden called The Pusher who have gone from strength to strength and have just signed...

Episode two of Kitchen Hero is all about one of my favourite things to do… cook for friends!  As with the whole series the idea is to get people cooking with really easy recipes that are full of flavour which take minimum effort!  My favourite flavours to cook with are Asian and so this episodes recipes feature two of my regular Asian inspired quick fixes which are perfect for feeding a crowd.  I also get to make one the best desserts ever, my crunchie banoffee pie!  The cast of beautiful people featured in the show are all my lovely...

Episode 1: Surf’s Up!

First things first while I have always loved it I am absolutely terrible at surfing!  I guess I am more of a body boarder but I can happily say that I have just about stood up on a board more than once!  When it came to deciding what we might do for one episodes, a surfing trip was high on the list.  My friends and I are always talking about doing it, so it was the perfect reason to make it happen.  Like with all the recipes in the show, I wanted to cook up something easy, tasty and filling.  Also something which meant I would have plenty...
