  • Fantastic meal at Lilla Ego in Stockholm last night- highlight meal of the year so far! Really cool little restaurant, totally relaxed vibe and the food was incredible- ate: Gruyere (Semla) bun with seasonal mushrooms, pickled green tomatoes and pine, for main: duck breast with roast celaric, orange zest and beetroot! Only regret was I didn't have room for dessert! Tack @lillaegokrog!

New Beginnings and the perfect pizza base at home…

Welcome, welcome, welcome! I'm very excited to welcome you along to my brand new website with a new look and feel.  We've gone back to the old blog format with this new version of the website as I was feeling our old version was being swallowed up a little.  Now you can freely browse the blog archive in the left hand bar and we've also improved the recipe categories and recipe page to allow you find things a lot easier and to browse over 250 delicious recipes.  A big thank you to Robbie and Cristi from LaVerita studios for doing a fantastic job on the design and Simon Walker for designing my new logo.

Huevos Rancheros Breakfast Pizza

Huevos Rancheros is one of my favorite breakfasts and although traditionally served with corn chips, baked on a pizza base adds a similar crunch from the crust and makes an interesting twist.  I whack my oven up to highest temperature it will go and bake my pizza bases on a pizza stone which you can get from most kitchen shops.  Otherwise uses a metal baking sheet.

Junior MasterChef

Junior MasterChef returned with a new judge for 2012 as CBBC hosted the competition to find the best young cook in the country.  Irish television cook, food writer and photographer, Donal Skehan, joined veteran MasterChef presenter John Torode to present the second run of the BAFTA-nominated series.  Based on the hugely successful MasterChef series, the competition aims to find and encourage talented young cooks who have a flair for making exceptional food from scratch.  The format features 15 half-hour episodes, consisting of eight heats, two quarterfinals, four semi-finals and a final cook-off.  The final of the show was watched by over 1 million viewers throughout Ireland and the UK.

Kitchen Hero: Bringing Cooking Back Home

Donal's first TV series, Kitchen Hero: Bringing Cooking Back Home began airing on RTÉ One in May 2011.  The 14 part series emphasises the fun and social aspect of food, and the satisfaction that can be had from cooking for, and eating with friends. Donal’s aim is to transform even the most reluctant or nervous cook into a Kitchen Hero!
